Hi! I’m Melanie, and I’m super passionate about all things voice!
As a voice professional, I wear a lot of hats - I’m not just a clinical voice therapist (a registered speech pathologist who only works with voice clients, bringing the science to voice care); I’m also a voice teacher who is specifically trained as a Singing Voice Specialist (bringing the art to voice craft), a voice educator (sometimes teaching university voice and voice disorders courses to SLP graduate students and often found presenting at international conferences), and sometimes I even get to work on my own craft as a grateful professional singer and voiceover artist who’s had the joy of a diverse multi-decade long career. I’m a lifelong learner and can’t get enough when it comes to talking with other passionate voice pros about how to stay on the cutting edge of how to best help fellow voice users love their voices as efficiently and joyfully as possible!
My experience as a performer has been heaps of fun and incredibly diverse! Over 30+ years, I’ve had the privilege of performing in projects that have included contracts with Disney Cruise Line, touring with Juno-Award winning bands, performing in production musicals, arranging for, directing, and singing in acappella ensembles, entertaining a professional Christmas caroler, and working as a session singer in recording studios among others. We’re certain to find some common ground that will fuel our mutual excitement about your voice goals when we’re working together! But I have more than just performing experience informing my work. From wading through a really long and scary time when I thought my own unexpected voice problems were unsolvable, I want you to know how much I deeply empathize with whatever voice challenge you’re dealing with. I truly know first-hand how meaningful our voices are to us. And there’s nothing I won’t do as a result to help you find and love your voice as deeply as possible.
Speech pathology is broad and diverse in terms of the communication challenges an SLP can help with. Of course you’d want your practitioner to be well trained and experienced in the kind of therapy YOU require. Yet the wonderful diversity in our field means not everyone has the knowledge and experience to really get to the heart of a voice-related challenge. If you need help with your voice, you want someone who really, really, really, really, really knows - and loves - all things voice. And that means you’re in luck! I love helping people with all kinds of voice-related challenges, and the many hats I wear symbolize a lifetime of different careers and experiences helping others with their voices. Whether you need voice rehabilitation or optimization, I’m here to support you with the full force of my unwavering enthusiasm. (And be forewarned, that is A LOT. Like… a whole lot. :D)
